One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well ![]()
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: Yesterday was a NO spend day. We went out for a ride in the morning, but we didn’t stop anywhere. It rained off and on all day long, so that was free water for the garden. We ate breakfast and lunch at home, but went to my parent’s house for a few hours at dinner. My dad threw a few hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. After dinner, we went to my sister’s house for an hour so that the cousins could see one another because they haven’t seen on another for awhile. I got the girls home and in bed by 8:30. I had bunch of forms to fill out for their school, so I filled them out. I packed lunches and did everything I could last night to get ready for today. I guess the homework starts today.
I did a few surveys and earned some Swagbucks before bed. I requested a check from one of my survey companies. I also found a few more items for the Ebay pile. I found a really nice bookcase for the girls on Craigslist. I’m waiting to hear back about it. It is exactly what I’ve been looking for and the price is right. I just hope it’s still available. Ro is off today because he worked a shift over the weekend. We have some errands to run. We may go over to our favorite diner for a $1.79 breakfast.
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it
You could make 2013 your year. Who will the September winner be ? We’ll see…

Did stop for lunch yesterday but we were hungry and a ways from home. Paid a few bills. Not an exciting day but I like those kinda days sometimes. Question, is it true that it’s cheaper to wash clothes and dry them at certain times of the day???? What about the dishwasher??
In theory it is supposed to be, but I for one don’t have the luxury of waiting. Easiest way to cut a bit of elec. Would be line drying. Also cut dry cycle off dw…hand dry.
Thanks, I will give it a try.
I started line drying all my clothes this year. Has definitely made a huge difference in my electric bill. Plan on doing so this coming winter, too….only by the fire, not outside! Clothing last longer (think dryer lint) and whites look brighter. Love the way my sheets feel and smell, too.
No spend day.
It was a no spend day for our budget, DH wanted to make something for our cookout yesterday that we didn’t have all the ingredients for so he sent me to the store for the items. He paid for it with his $ since I didn’t have any from the budget. No plans to spend any $ today I have a beef stew that I’m planning to make this afternoon.
I met my sister at the movie theater with her kids and we watched Planes; only cost me $4.50 to get in; apparently during the day kids 3 and under get in for free…SCORE!! We then went to the grocery store for a few items for the week; hubby has to go into work early this week so dinners will be super easy since its just me and the kids. I made the treat bags for my little mans party and they came out so cute; I drew and copied the ninja turtle head and glued them to brown paper bags then cut out the mask and eyes. I printed my coupons for the cereal deal at Walgreens which I will do today.
Had a lot of errands to run. Finally made it to Staples to turn in my 20 ink cartridges and was still able to score the paper deal since they forgot to take the sign down. Nothing oop, so that was a bonus. Rolled my Menards rebates, which made for some great free deals. Also stopped by the bank for $ to refill my envelope system. Perkstreet has shut down, so I have once again returned to paying cash. Saved $0.30 cents/gallon on gas with a coupon. Earned 237 swagbucks.
Made and ate all meals at home yesterday. Brought the girls to the drive-in to see Planes. It was cheaper than the movie theater and we brought our own popcorn and soda. I also mowed the lawn and made a loaf of homemade bread. Also picked tomatoes from the garden and made some fresh homemade salsa for a snack. It tasted so fresh and good.
No spend day. Returned some things we didn’t need for credit. Filled the freezer with honemade meals which will come in so handy now that we are getting home later with practices and games.
Had a fun productive weekend and after all side work and family time we came out ahead $170 going deposit it into bank today. Leftovers will be for dinner so hoping for a no spend day!
Spent money for milk this morning, the first food expenditure for 2 weeks. Went to a new co-worker’s house for dinner. I brought a tomato based appetizer, made from garden ingredients, and came home with TWO loaves of bread.
Spent gas and money on dinner for group picnic but several bags of chips not opened so I’m returning them.
Boring day! no spending and packed lunch, full day at work and peak time is over since it’s officially back to school time, so it was really nice
