One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $205,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well !
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt.
I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: Am I the only one who thinks it’s crazy that it’s already August 1st ?? Even though July was so HOT here it still feels like it went fast. I was pretty frugal yesterday. I actually went to the grocery store twice to use up coupons that were expiring last night. I had a coupon for a FREE Oscar Mayer selects item with a value up to $9 (wow, who would price them that high?). I had several other coupons to use up. I hate finding an awesome coupon the day after it expires. What a bummer.
I got some great bargains yesterday online. I got the FREE (after cash back) Seventh Generation dish soap. I love that stuff. I also snagged the $5 Ebay code from Recycle Bank. I cashed out 2 vouchers from daily deal sites before they expired. We will have some fun things coming in the mail. The girls got thier Crocs today from the deal that I posted last week. They were so appreciative. It was sweet.
Well, this week is pay week so I’m trying to be very strategic about our money this week. I have to call the cable company today because they snuck some extra charges into our bill this month and I have to make sure they take them off. After paying the bills we should have some $$ left over. I need to see whether we should pay down the mini van (Can you tell I’m dying to get rid of that payment?) OR if we should put it towards the appliances we will need soon. I have to give it some thought and talk to Ro about it. I know Dave Ramsey always talks about doing the budget on paper before the month begins, but we’re going to be a little late with it this month. As I said August kind of snuck up on me this time 🙂
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the August winner. You could make 2012 your year !
I am a mom who has paid off $111,500 in debt in less than 4 years by saving money at the stores and putting all of our extra $ on debt. Subscribe to my FREE Daily Newsletter so that you can get my free updates and NEVER miss a deal. Thanks for visiting!

No spend day for us yesterday. Today I will do some grocery shopping but with coupons of course! I also can not believe it is August already. We started to see pumpkins starting to develop in a garden which is so exciting!

No spend day for us, too. I made muffins and bacon for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and yummy chicken enchiladas for dinner. Everything was made at home or from stockpile:)

The only money spent yesterday was a doctor’s office visit copay and an application fee to a new daycare for my daughter.
Took the boys to the $1 movies and got them a$2 popcorn. My regal card printed out a coupon for a free movie next time, which i will save for a date night.
Got free reach toothbrushes @ Rite-aid(paid a total of 31c tax)
Got 4 free crayon boxes @target and they had their z bars on sale and i had a coupon.
The register spit out a b1g1 free drink from starbucks, so i got my boys a drink each to cap off the day.
Now have to make $ last til next payday.

Hubby went to grocery store for us yesterday (1st time in SEVERAL years but a friend was giving him hard time on Monday & he told me on our way home “I’ll go to the store if you leave me a list”). He even used coupons & my target debit card for 5% off so I had to laugh when he said “I even saved almost $20!” He did forget to have them take off 5 cents for each reuseable bag but it probably amounted to 20-25 cents so definetely worth him going for me! 🙂
Today is a great saving $ day- just found out I can save $15/month on my gym membership b/c of an agreement that my insurance has with the gym I’ve used for a few years ($26 rather than $41/month) AND my employer qualifies for a $10 gift card when we renew with Sam’s Club. Well last month my membership automatically renewed & since we have a college membership, the guy just gave me a $15 gift card! I’m so excited that I’m almost giddy at work-how crazy am I?!
No spend day number 2 into a no spend two weeks (I hope). Made $27.00 on Amazon books I sold that I was going to put out at the end of the driveway with a “Free” sign, so putting that toward the almost $900 I want to come up with by the end of August for our property tax. (If I sound like I am obsessed with that, I am. It took a long time to pay off all credit cards and our mortgage and have an emergency fund, so I don’t want to tap it unless I absolutely have to. I am doing mystery shops, decluttering and selling, taking on babysitting—-and next week I am lamb sitting for someone going out of town who needs to have a lamb hand fed for two weeks. I am being paid $10 a day for that, so I may be able to make the $880 or so that I needed at last count to reach the $1000 mark.)

Spent the day on the road with my husband meeting with a few clients. We stopped for lunch but it was paid for by the company so no money out of our pocket. We did some remodeling and moved our dish box into a closet so we had to buy a special UHF remote that cost $25.00. Makes the living room look better by having it out of eye’s view so it was worth it. I earned 16 swagbucks. Meant to cash out for another Amazon Gift Card before the new month but forgot!
