One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $205,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well !
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt.
I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I had a pretty frugal day yesterday. I started out by winning a bag of the FREE Ghirardelli candy that I posted about. I also created my FREE Cardstore card and entered 20 FREE points on MyCokeRewards.com. I listed 2 items on Ebay and 1 on Craigslist. Hopefully there will be a little action on these items over the weekend.
I did do one shopping trip at one of my local grocery stores. I was able to get All laundry detergent for $1.88 (got 10), Hebrew National hot dogs for $1.77/pack (got 8 and froze them), Scott TP for less than $5 for a 12 pack (got 5), Orville Redenbacher popcorn for less tha $.50/box (got 8) + a few more items. The girls weren’t behaving themselves in the checkout line, so I was a little distracted, but I did well.
I made all meals at home. I made tomato and cucumber salad straight from our garden. I went out and picked 25lbs worth of veggies. I’m going to start freezing some of the peppers for use throughout the year. I made crock pot blueberry cobbler. I didn’t try it, but the kids said it was good. We have lots more left for the weekend. I made sloppy joes with a salad for dinner.
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the August winner. I will announce the July winner on Monday. You could make 2012 your year !
I am a mom who has paid off $111,500 in debt in less than 4 years by saving money at the stores and putting all of our extra $ on debt. Subscribe to my FREE Daily Newsletter so that you can get my free updates and NEVER miss a deal. Thanks for visiting!

Another no spend day here. All meals made at home. Didn’t even drive anywhere. Vacations can be death to the budget but this one hasn’t. The house rental was paid for months ago. Nice!

Had left overs for dinner and no spend day here! I entered a ton of coke rewards points and cashed in my viggle points for a $25 Amazon gift card. If you haven’t tried out Viggle (earn points for checking in to television shows with your smart phone) - now is the time to do it - there are so many points to earn with the Olympics going on right now!

I went out to lunch with two coworkers ($15 total) and that was it. Looking forward to making my plans for the weekend shopping and hopefully using a LOT of coupons.

Got the 87c nutrigrain bars from Target(for my two kiddos w/out allergies)
Also got the free card from cardstore that you posted about. Got some free samples. Printed coupons.
Got two packages in the mail, one from my sis that had pears, cheese, and nuts in it(Harry &David)
Then Hubby sent me choc covered strawberries(I got two.. the kids devoured the rest) My kids are hungry every 5 minutes this summer. Im a little overwhelmed by this.
Got my big cast off and Im in a hinged cast.
Yesterday I wrote a check for two new basement windows, electrical lines and a breaker box. We are cash flowing some much needed work in our home and barns . While this is slowing down our snowball, I’m happy that we are paying cash. Not too many years ago, we would have asked about financing. It’s peace of mind knowing that none of these projects are coming with payments.
No spend day. Traded cukes from my greenhouse for meatball soup the neighbor had made an excess of, wo we were both happy. Then another friend dropped off 10 pounds of salmon she’d caught last week, filleted and frozen. Then had yet natoher friend her teenaged son over to turn my compost and rake up all the sheep and chicken poop, in exchange for 15 pounds of cukes and another 15 pounds of zucchini for the family. They are having a hard time and I would have given them the food for free, but she wanted her son to feel like he earned food for their table and I of course was thrilled for the help with the heavy compost and stinky poop chores. It was a very lucky day—I felt like every time I ansered teh phone or the door, the world was handing me a gift.
