One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $205,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well !
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt.
I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I had a frugal day yesterday. I started out by putting a few rebate checks in the bank. Next I headed off to Target to snag some bargains. I got the Nutri grain bars, tons of FREE Rose Art school supplies and a few other great deals. I also ran into CVS to snag the inexpensive Ragu sauce. The deal ends today, so I wanted to make sure I got it. I also had a coupon for a FREE Unreal bar. I may do a few more drugstore deals today if we have time.
I made all meals at home except that I had some Chipolte for lunch. We had a really frugal dinner since the hot dogs we ate were FREE because of a coupon I got a few weeks ago. I served it with a salad fresh from the garden. I gave the twins some tater tots to go along with it. We ate dessert over my sister’s house. I brought her some veggies from our garden and some FREEbies that I’ve gotten in the past few weeks. I usually bring her all of the samples and freebies that I can’t use because she has teenage girls and they love it when I show up with a bag of freebies for them 🙂
I paid the van payment yesterday. I paid extra on it because I really want it GONE by Christmas, so I’m trying to really hit it hard. I earned 27 Swagbucks yesterday and did a few surveys after the girls went to bed. I also entered the 30 FREE points on MyCokeRewards that I posted.
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the August winner. I will announce the July winner on Monday. You could make 2012 your year !

Great frugal day yesterday. Started out garage sailing w/ friends got a pair of American Eagle jeans for my teen boy that fit perfect for $1 and a pair of Columbia shorts for 50c that will fit me perfect..in a few weeks and 5 less lbs.
My daughter got asked to sing the National Anthem for a baseball game and got two free fix. I read my emails before walking out the door and noticed that a girlfriend had posted that she wasn’t using her season tix last night. I ran by her house to grab 4 more tix.
The kids kept begging for food the whole time. but the prices at the stadium our insane. I got them an iceream at Mcdonalds after. My girl hit it out of the park as they say, even the mascot gave her a high five! (ha ha proud mama) Fun night.

I ran into Staple to get some copy paper and the penny deals. I took my oldest son in with me to double the number of penny items we could get. I was able to get 2 of the copy paper along with 20 folders, 12 pocket kleenex and 4 packs of paper clips for $3.36 after rebate. I also ran into Target to get some fruit snacks, Nutrigrain bars, pens, and toothpaste. Spent $22.93 but then got $15.00 in giftcards. That was the end of our frugal day. We then went into Kohls and spent $122.00 on clothes for the boys and a baby shower gift. I save $28.00 with a coupon and used $20.00 in Kohls Cash. I then got another $20.00 in Kohls cash back. We took the boys out to Texas Roadhouse as a date night before they head back to school in 10 days . . . not frugal but very yummy! It is very rare that we spend $50.00 for us to eat out.

By using my Belk’s $10 reward card this weekend, the store doubled it. I used it on merchandise that was $75%, and my purchase was completely free. Full retail price was $80.

Hi ,
Congrats on the new little one.
I ran into Target, noticed the brand of cheeses sticks my son eats are cheaper there. Free pens, free chex mix with a coupon and sale at wegman’s. School starts in 3 weeks. Need to get a good deal on notebooks still. Thanks for the posts, they are awesome and so helpful.

Loved reading about the freebie bag! When we have Christmas with my family, I fill a big canvas Santa bag with freebies and samples. Everyone closes their eyes and we count to 3- it’s a free for all!

(cont.) there’s makeup, toiletries, snacks, candy, gift and gas cards. Everyone grabs what they can and then sit there and trade back and forth. It’s just a fun silly way to share the freebies:)
Another no spend day. Turned some nasturtium seed pods into capers, some for us and some for gifts.

Congratulations - I love the name!
Yesterday was an “OK” day for me spending wise. I went to Target and got a couple of the deals, but I also got some items I wasn’t planning to (but will be for Christmas and were 75% off). I earned 20 coke rewards points and 64 swagbucks. I also listed an item on Craig’s list and got good feedback today. One of the best hints was someone said I should RAISE the price, so I will wait a bit and repost. I’m planning on posting one item tonight as well. I have a huge box in the basement that I want to make my way through either by selling on Craig’s list or donating (but will get the tax benefit of that).
