Mommy Luvs 2 Save

Use Extreme Couponing To Save You Money and Get Your Family Out of Debt

August 6th ~ What Have YOU Done to Get Debt FREE ?

August 6, 2023 by Karen 10 Comments

One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment.  My own family has paid off over $205,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well !

It can be very difficult to pay down debt.  There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt.

I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.

The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day.  One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month.  To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.

* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.

My Progress:  It was a no spend day for us yesterday.  I had bought lunchmeat and milk on Saturday so I think we’re okay for awhile. We got to bed very late on Saturday night, so it was kind of a lazy day for us.  We did laundry and other household “get ready for the week” jobs, but didn’t spend any money.  We did go to Lowe’s to do some appliance comparative shopping, but we left without making a purchase.

I earned 27 Swagbucks and cash out for a $25 gift card at one of my survey companies.  I also used up some overly ripe bananas by making banana muffins.  I’ve paid the mortgage and utility bills for the month.  I may send an extra payment to the van, but other than that I am looking forward to beefing up the sickly emergency fund this month.  I did watch Suze Ormon on Saturday night.  It reruns at 12 midnight.  I couldn’t stay awake to watch the whole thing, but I’m sure they’ll repeat it some time this week.

What did you do ?  I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the August winner. The winner for July was Lindsey (at dor….. ).  Congrats! Thanks for sharing your journey with us.  You could make 2012 your year !

My husband and I need to get back on track with our no spending. We went shopping and bought some clothes (we still did not spend that much) but I want to stop spending. We also went out to eat. I think now that the weekend is done we will get back on track. All of the meals are planned out for the week which is nice!

Had to buy lunch on the way home from the beach, and put has in the car, but that was it. A neighbor was so kind to bring lasagna by for dinner. Good to be home!

We are going through a major financial hard time right now, but it is making me even more frugal! I am working hard at cooking from what we have and not running to the grocery store.

We are working hard on eating all meals at home.
I am planning to try selling some clothes at kids consignment store. Lately they have only been buying gear.

Hi Everyone, Congrats Lindsey on winning!. We had a yard sale last Saturday and made $90. It was really slow for some reason but $90 is $90. We also donated some stuff and I got a bunch of stuff cleaned out of each room and some stuff packed for the upcoming move so I am happy but tired. I also finished the 150 wedding invitations that I did for my sons upcoming wedding so I am also glad that is behind me. We have been eating all meals at home with the exception of one while on a manhunt for ribblon for the invitations. I am cooking from what is in the house because I dont want to move any more than I have too. I have some things to list on Craigslist also, so we will see how that goes too.

Has anyone heard from Jennifer? I hope she is doing ok! I hope everyone else is doing well. Blessings.

Oh my goodness, if I read this correctly, I won the July Amazon card! I think that is the first time I have ever won anything besides a baseball cap at the local fair!! THank you so much!

Another no spend day. I tried making chocolate zuke muffins using ground up green tomatoes instead—it worked so well with beets as a substitute that I figured this would work, too. NOT. Sour strands that didn’t soften while baking. A waste of money but I have so many green tomatoes that will not ripen before our first frosts in about 3 weeks (northern Alaska) that I am desperately trying to figure out some other uses. I let some get ripe, but others just rot before getting ripe. Any suggestions?

Trying desperately to spend nothing over the next couple days. We are leaving for our trip this Saturday! Getting my hotel room for $23 using travel points!!! That will be our first night, then we are renting a condo in New York City so we can make most meals at “home” and save our money for activities. Gas prices are up, but I got a coupon for 5cents off per litre Wednesday only, so I’m going to fill up. Hopefully that will take us half way there. And the exchange rate is pretty good, almost at par. Will print out some coupons to take with me. Anyone with any hints on deals in Manhattan (lol, what am I thinking of??)
