One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $205,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well !
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt.
I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: Well, I spent some money yeserday, but it was spent strategically (Does that make sense??). I did get Chipolte for lunch. I used a gift card that I earned on Discover Rewards. I went to Target with a handful of Target coupons. I spent $16, but got quite a few awesome things including FREE pens, nearly free fabric softener sheets, fruit snacks, cereal, chicken patties, eye makeup remover, Lunchables and a few other odds and ends. It was a great trip. Don’t you love it when a shopping trip comes together the way you want it to. I also bought the Entertainment book from the deal that I posted yesterday. It will be $.99 after cash back. I’m quite sure I’ll get much, much more than our money back.
I also ran into CVS to cash in a few more coupons and got FREE candy (for the girl’s lunches) and a few other deals. I made dinner and breakfast at home and packed lunch for Olivia. The girls both have the sniffles and since Ro was staying home Kayla wanted to stay home with him. Olivia opted to go to preschool. It was the first whole day they’ve ever spent apart and I was glad they did it. We’re always impressing upon them that although they’re twins they are different people and can choose different things. Also, we’ve been noticing that they’ve been bickering alot lately (they didn’t used to do this and I’m hoping it’s just a phase). We were thinking that a day apart might be good for them. They missed one another terribly, but I can’t say it was a “bicker free” evening.
It was an awesome mail day yesterday. I got my FREE Schick Hydro razor, a check for $19.25 from one of my survey companies and coupons for 4 ice cream cones from Chick fil a. I also got a call from a lady who wants to buy something that I have for sale on Craigslist. Hopefully, we can meet up sometime this weekend. Yesterday felt like a pretty productive day.
What did you do ? I hope you had a blessed day. Leave a comment You could be the July winner. You could make 2012 your year !

We have to travel to pick up my daughter from camp today so we packed drinks and lunches to eat to and from to avoid the temptation of stopping on the go!!

It was an expensive day for us. We had to take my son’s 4H project to our 4H office to have it taken to state. . . yeah! While there we stopped by Menards to pick up some materials for our investment property that we are working on. It was money out of our pockets, but we will end up getting it back when we sell the house. I stopped in at Staples to grab some copy paper and the penny deal items. Spent $15.04 out of pocket but will get $11.98 back so really only spent $3.06 after rebate. I also stopped at CVS to grab my free kid’s vitamins and candy bars. I was able to earn 86 swagbucks. I was able to sell some stuff and now have $30.00 to put in our land fund.
Got to love Menards!
Yesterday we went to TSC to buy a new battery for our Kubota. We also needed some plumbing parts to fix two water spigots in the barn. I’m very thankful that my hubby can do these repairs himself and therefore, save us money. Other than that, it was an uneventful day.
Today we took a fun trip to the NC Ft. Fisher Aquarium. We drove to the ferry dock and took the ferry over instead of driving over. It was so much fun. Me and Lil Chris went with my sister and husband and her granddaughter and friend for her birthday. We then let the girls and Lil Chris play on the outside playground for a bit before heading to Carolina Beach Park and had a” pick a nic” as the girls called it. Then we had a cupcake celebration. It was so much fun, but we were are so tired.
I spent $8 for my admission ticket to the Aquarium and that was it. We packed are lunch and drinks so we wouldnt spend any money and we browsed the gift shop, but took pics with our phones to bring home as souvenirs.
I did receive sad news this week, a close friend of mine’s daughter passed away in April unexpectedly and Wednesday that same friends grandaughter (daughter of the daughter) who suffered from a debilitating disease called FOP passed away. It saddens my heart to see my dear friend sad, but Tiffany was a young lady who smiled all the time no matter the pain, knew the Lord and knew that one day her pain would end. She always made the best of every day no matter what and that brought great comfort to her “Nanny”. Just makes me remember to hug my kids and grandkids a little tighter and a little more each day.
I meant to make a mud pie dessert yesterday, where I smash down brownies and serve them looking like mud pies to tease my husband who says I have been so frugal with making meals tgaht any day he is expecting me to serve mud pies for dinner with the excuse that mud is free and good for you. THen I remembered it was his birthday, and we were going out, so I am fixing them tonight—even though we usually have a sweet dessert only on Friday. I figure since it was his birthday week we can eat dessert two days running.
Went grocery shopping and bought mostly milk and fruit, since the garden is producing veggies out the ear. (Today I picked a four and a half pound zuke that I cam going to make into sweet relish tomorrow.) On Monday we are starting another no-spend two weeks, that sort of coincides with our best harvest time in our garden (in northern Alaska fall is here and there are nightly frosts by late August) so we will have plenty to eat. My goal is to save or sell or make from surveys another $900 to pay off house taxes for the year without having to go into our small safety net fund.
My sister lives in Alaska, just wondered what part you are in.

I did one last trip to the grocery store before we leave for the beach. I went to Kroger to pick up the cheap Oscar Meyer lunch meat, bacon, eggs, sour cream, cheese, and Snapple. The computer system was all messed up- they had switched over to tomorrow’s prices- so just by checking my ticket, I was able to clear up the mistake before I left the store. I got back a little over $20, which means I got FREE bacon (1 of them, plus the difference on the others), FREE eggs, FREE sour cream, and FREE Sargento cheese (1 of them, plus the difference in the other). I’m glad I got it corrected, but how ridiculous of Kroger to know about the price differences and not do anything about it. Check those tickets before you leave the store. They know if you get home, you’ll likely not go back to the store for the correction. (Unless you’re a couponer!)

My daughter left on Thursday to go and live with her dad, a four hour plane ride away 🙁 I am sad, but trying to move along. We talk every day, so that helps. I needed to paint her old room, just for some closure, so I went to the free paint exchange we have here. I was able to pick up a big can that was the perfect colour with the primer already in it. It was three-quarters full. Free paint! All I had to do was go to the hardware store and buy some rollers, which were on sale, and 4 hours later it is done!
My other daughter is still with me, and we’ve been eating healthy and frugally. Today she and her friend wanted to go to SubWay for supper, but instead we went and bought buns and meat, and they enjoyed that just as well. Our garden is blooming, so we already had tomatoes and lettuce for the sub.
Dinner tomorrow is at my mom and dad’s. We just have to bring dessert, which will be fresh fruit from the market!
Awww, Janet I’m sorry. I can only imagine what you’re going through. My thoughts are with you. How old are your daughters? I hope you have a wonderful time with your family for dinner. I love having most of what I need for a salad from the garden. I have to pick some things tomorrow. I’ll say a little prayer for ya !
I can relate, one of my older boys moved out in May. Hard but okay he was around the corner. In mid June he suddenly moved 4 hours away! He is 20 so not quite the same, but to us moms they are always
Our babies. He has 2 much younger siblings 2&4 and they ask for him everyday. I know most days I would be thrilled to hug him. So hugs from another sad mom.
